The Shivering.
In Beauty it is Finished
Finland 2014
This work, The Shivering, was the first part of Night Chant, a short video, stimulated by the death of a friend from my year at University, the artist Monica Ross. She had memorised and recited the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in many performances. Witnessing her silent dead body, containing this canon of consciousness, was a catalyst for this work. Covering myself in snow in a Finnish winter, my voice shivering until the words of the Navaho song/poem Night Chant that I spoke could no longer emerge
May it be beautiful before me.
May it be beautiful behind me.
May it be beautiful below me.
May it be beautiful above me.
May it be beautiful all around me.
In beauty it is finished.
