Seaclipse
Seaclipse : Sharing A Shadow
An Arts Catalyst commission
I invited the cosmology consultant for New Scientist magazine, Marcus Chown, and individuals from a wide range of backgrounds to venture out on boats into the middle of the English Channel to experience the solar eclipse of August 11, 1999. Among those invited were teenagers from Tower Hamlets Summer University and from the RNIB New College in Worcester. Everyone chronicled their own personal experience and sensations of the eclipse and a video record was made by each of the 38 participants.
The exhibition Seaclipse incorporated a video of a one minute work from each participant exhibited into a projection called Seaclipse : Sharing A Shadow
plus photographs and lightbox works recording the solar eclipse. It was shown by Arts Catalyst at Limehouse Gallery in association with Matts Gallery in August 2000. The Seaclipse video has also been shown at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery as part of The Gateway Project : Natural Forces and Sincronie, Italy.
