I have often used various physical devices to transform my voice. Words have a real material presence giving a sensation of trying to taste them or feel one’s way around them, like little sculptures in the mouth, coming out as formations into the world.

Here in Israel for the first time, strong memories arose of Jewish rituals from my childhood and I observed how words are originally ‘placed’ in the mouth.

I felt the sense of millions of tongues for hundreds of years having formed around the words of various prayers from numerous rituals.
