Our Trespasses
Showroom Gallery, London
24 hours before this performance I placed white tulips in a vase filled with red dye in the gallery. Once every hour I took a large format polaroid photograph as the white tulips turned red.
The photographs were placed in the gallery around the space. Then transparent hose was configured and glued on the wall to spell ‘for give us’ and the ends of hose were placed in the red dye.
During the performance, the singer Mary Genis and I sucked the dye into the hose so the words suddenly appeared in red whilst we sang early blues from Vera Hall. We wrapped tape recorders playing the same songs in cotton wool to slowly extinguish the voices on the players.
The final polaroids of the words in the space were taken during the performance by Kirsten Reynolds and subsequently hung in the space , along with the 24 polaroids of the slowly changing tulips, plus the vase of tulips, as an exhibition.
