Four GONGS for WUHAN
Come Hell or High Water
Wuhan has been a familiar word to myself and Richard Wilson for many years because of the city’s hand-made gongs and cymbals, which we often used in events, referring to them as Wuhans. The event, Four GONGS for WUHAN, was partly to redress the perception of the word in current times.
The invitation read:
On July 5th there will be four Wuhan gong salutations with Anne Bean & Richard Wilson:
The 8.12 overture at 8.12 pm, beginning at the moment of the height of the Full Thunder moon (Anglo Saxon name of this moon), the second beginning at the moment of the Dark moon, 21.06 pm, (greatest magnitude of penumbral lunar eclipse), the third beginning at 21.19 pm, the moment of sunset and the final gong salutation at 21.34 pm, the moment of lowest tide at Limehouse foreshore, ending with a flaming sambucca toast to each of these sun and moon actions and interactions.
