Crossroads
The Feuilleton: I will bear witness
Edicola, Spoleta
Jo Melvin curated the Edicola project which opened at the beginning of the ‘Festival dei due Mondi’/ the ‘Festival of Two Worlds’. She invited me to be a part of the project. The Edicola (newsstand) is located at a crossroads in the old town of Spoleto, Umbria. Five roads lead to it with two pedestrianised. It is redundant and has been disused for a number of years. I asked her to find a person who played an instrument and had recently immigrated to Italy near to the town and to tell them of Robert Johnson’s song Cross Road Blues and of his Faustian pact made at the crossroads. The musician would then adapt this song or play a piece of music of their own, at the crossroads, that they felt related to the song
